How My Garden Grows

Happy Friday, friends!

Thought I'd share what's growing in my bedroom these days...

baby basil plants (Aren't they cute?!) :) ...

pepper plants...

tomato plants including possibly the most amazing tomato EVER!!- KBX...

and cilantro, which is just breaking through the soil

I usually start most of my plants from seed. I have a little set up that includes a grow light, heating mat, and grow system that allows seedlings to absorb water from the bottom- everything needed to get them off to a healthy start.

I know, I know, it's almost May and my seedlings are still very little, but not to worry, they grow super fast and should be ready to plant outside by the end of May/early June, even though I started them a tad later than normal.

Soon, it will be time to start pie pumpkins and delicata squash. I'm also growing sugar snap peas, lettuce, kale, beets, green beans, parsley, sweet potatoes, and garlic. Then there's red raspberries and a few blueberries that I will probably get from my young and still growing bushes (if the birds don't get to them first!). I have to replant strawberries this year too (if the rain will only stop for a few days so the ground can dry!) because the plants from the past 5 years needed some renovation. I also love to mix flowers in with my veggies as much as possible because diversity is good for preventing pest problems, AND it makes the garden more beautiful!

What do you grow in your garden?

My Cutie Pie

Happy Wednesday, friends!

We actually got some sunshine yesterday (which seems to be very rare these days), so I had a photo shoot with my baby. Yes, he's a dog, but I love him like he's human. :)

He got his hair cut recently, and I always think he looks more puppy-ish after he's groomed (he just turned 7 years old a week and a half ago). Plus, a hair cut always brings out his spots, which I love.

He loves finding sticks outside to chew.

And he's pretty talented... Can you touch your tongue to your nose?

Sunday Reflections: He Has Risen

Crucified, laid behind a stone
You lived to die, rejected and alone
Like a rose, trampled on the ground
You took the fall
And thought of me
Above all

"In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness."  -Hebrews 9:22

Blessed Redeemer, precious Redeemer
Seems now I see Him on Calvary's tree
Wounded and bleeding, for sinner's pleading
Blind and unheeding, dying for me

At the wonderful, tragic, mysterious tree
On that beautiful, scandalous night you and me
Were atoned by His blood and forever washed white
On that beautiful, scandalous night

"After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, 'Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he was risen, just as he said.' "  -Matthew 28:1-6a

Living, He loved me
Dying, He saved me
Buried, He carried my sins far away
Rising, He justified freely forever
One day He's coming
Oh, glorious day

" 'Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!' "  -Revelation 5:12

Congratulations Sharon!! Send me an email at and I will get those herb markers to you!

On another note, today is Good Friday, and I am so, SO thankful for the blood that my Savior shed for me (and you!).

"One day they led Him up Calvary's mountain
One day they nailed Him to die on a tree
Suffering anguish, despised and rejected
Bearing our sins, my Redeemer is He
Hands that healed nations, stretched out on a tree
He took the nails for me

Living, He loved me
Dying, He saved me
Buried, He carried my sins far away
Rising, He justified freely forever
One day He's coming
Oh, glorious day, oh, glorious day"

A treasury is a shopping gallery of wonderful etsy items put together by an etsy seller, usually with some sort of theme. If you've ever been to the home page of etsy, what you see there is a treasury that someone put together and the head honchos of etsy chose to use for the home page. It's a big deal if a treasury you put together or a treasury you are in makes it to the front page because that means more exposure for your shop!

I just joined an etsy team "The Treasury Crew" where we help support and promote each other by making treasuries using items from team member's shops. From time to time you may see my treasuries here on the blog. Enjoy!

p.s. I know the photos are small on here. You can click on any items that interest you to see them bigger and get more info!

p.p.s. Only 2 MORE DAYS to enter the herb marker giveaway!

Sunday Reflections: Having the Right Focus

Happy Monday, friends!

I was thinking about what I wanted to share today, and one thing kept coming to my mind. Yesterday, through Sunday school and a special evening speaker at church, I thought a lot about how I am feeding the Spirit vs. how I am feeding my flesh, and which one am I feeding more? It's easy (for me anyways) to "do spiritual things" like reading the Bible and praying, but when I think of my day and how much time I actually devote to feeding the Spirit, I'm afraid sometimes it pales in comparison to the time I spend feeding my flesh. Whichever one I feed more is going to thrive and ultimately control my life.

Since this is "Holy Week," or the week leading up to Christ's crucifixion and resurrection, I think it's the perfect time for me to refocus my life, to consciously feed the Spirit and deny my flesh.

"To be filled with the Spirit is to be under His total domination and control.... To be filled with the Spirit involves confession of sin, surrender of will, intellect, body, time, talent, possessions, and desires. It requires the death of selfishness and the slayings of self-will.... To be filled with God's Spirit is to be filled with His Word. And as we are filled with God's Word, it controls our thinking and action."
                                                                           -John MacArthur

Sweet Lamb Babies

Happy Wednesday, Friends!

I've always had a special place in my heart for animals... especially baby animals... and I LOVE lambs! There is just something that makes me melt when I see them.
Maybe its their woolly little bodies...

Maybe it's their wobbly little legs...

Maybe it's their sweet little faces or the fact that they look so soft and snug-able...

All I know is that I want one... or two.

Sunday Reflections: Two Are Better Than One

Happy Monday, Friends! Time for another "Sunday Reflections." (If you are just tuning in, "Sunday Reflections" is a new Monday series that I started last week. You can read the first post here.)

Sarah, me, and Andrea at a wedding in September, 2010

There are many things I could write about today (it was a mighty good Sunday!), but I decided on the importance of relationships. (FYI: This was not the main message at church, but something that stood out to me) :)

Mark 6:7 states, "Calling the Twelve to him, he sent them out two by two and gave them authority over evil spirits." Notice, Jesus sent out his disciples in twos, not by themselves. "Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." (Ecclesiastes 4:12) We humans need each other.

Over the past year, I have been so, so blessed with two incredible women that God has placed in my life. I'm amazed at how He has brought our lives together. Right now we get together once a week for our Beth Moore Bible study and prayer. Praying out loud was definitely not the most comfortable thing for me at first, but it has come to mean so much. Having people intercede for you and with you before God is an awesome thing. Not only do we share laughter and dreams, we also share tears and struggles, which I think is critical to our relationship. I am so thankful for them!

Tell your best friend(s) how much they mean to you today. If you feel alone in your life right now (I have been there), I would encourage you to ask God to bring the right person/people into your life. Believe me, it works. ;)
