Hi friends! The past few days, I've been up to my elbows in glaze preparing for a firing on Friday.
When I mix glazes, I do it outside in the garage because it's messy and there are harmful dusts that you don't want to breathe in. (I know... health-conscious me works with potentially cancer-causing ingredients!) Don't worry though, I wear a mask. Glaze is only harmful in the dry powdery state. Once it's liquid, it's perfectly safe. Fortunately, it's been pretty nice outside lately. I've mixed glazes already in the middle of winter, and it is not fun!
Once it's mixed, each batch of glaze has to go through a super-fine meshed strainer at least twice to make sure it's good and smooth.
In this next firing, I have lots of toad houses, soap dishes, ikebanas, herb markers, and jewelry! Gardening season is upon us, which I can tell by the fact that my shop is currently depleted of toad houses- yikes!
Have a happy Wednesday!

This looks like it would be sooo fun! I bet you love your job. :) I love the toadstools. Have you ever seen pottery mushrooms? So cute for the garden too! :)
ReplyDeleteEven though, like any job, not everything is fun, I do love it and wouldn't trade it for anything!
DeleteI have seen pottery mushrooms. So fun!
Gosh, I admire your talent a lot! May the Lord keep blessing you
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful things Natalie:) xoxoxoo H
ReplyDeleteI love how you press leaves into the toad houses! Very very cool :)
ReplyDeleteI'm visiting from Illy's blog, and I think I'm 'in like' :D I've only clicked through a few posts, and your unashamed witness for Christ already kinda convicted me. Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteCan I also just say, I think it is absolutely COOL that you are a potter. It is really quite Biblical, isn't it? :)
Love this post. Thanks for sharing a bit on the process of making your products. Even something as simple as straining the glaze twice is so interesting. I would never have known that. :)
ReplyDeleteTake care, friend!
