Hi friends! I wanted to let you know that I'm taking a little break from my blog for a week or so. Monday morning while I was using my laptop, the adapter started sizzling and smoking (scary!), so I have a new one on the way. Since I have limited access to the internet now, I figured it would be better to just take a break from blogging and use this time to make a lot of product and maybe try some new ideas!

I have some fun things planned once I return, but in the meantime, I thought I would share a few of my favorite blogs for you to read while I am away. Check them out if you don't read them already!

I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:5

It's so easy to get swallowed up in the world's way of thinking when it comes to success. Being a Christian and living life to bring glory to God is not only unconventional, but it's viewed as strange and foolish by the world. Yet this verse reminds me that apart from Christ. The minute I worry about what the world thinks and start to take my own path, the minute my life will be unfruitful. Only when we remain in Him will we be able to truly have a successful life.

I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.
Luke 10:21

Maple-Glazed Salmon

I am so excited to be sharing my first recipe for Health Food Fridays! I'm kicking off the series with one of my favorite foods- Maple-Glazed Salmon.

Salmon is so healthy and full of omega-3 fatty acids which have many important health benefits and are especially good for your heart. It is very important to eat wild salmon and not farm-raised. Not only do farm-raised salmon have less omega-3 oils, but they are given antibiotics and pesticides, not to mention they are fed dye to make them pink like their wild counterparts (doesn't that sound appetizing?!)

Now that you know what to look for, here's the recipe. It's so simple & yummy!

- 1 lb. wild Alaskan salmon

Season salmon fillets with garlic salt & pepper. Bake at 425° for 14-16 minutes until fish flakes with a fork.

- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 2 TB. apple cider vinegar
- 1 TB. dijon mustard
- 1 clove of garlic, minced
- dash of salt & pepper

Mix glaze ingredients in a small kettle, bring to a boil, and simmer for several minutes until glaze thickens.

Spoon glaze over salmon fillets to serve. Enjoy!

Wide, Open Spaces

I don't know how people live in the city- always surrounded by people & buildings. How do they get away from everything? Where do they find fresh air & quietness?

I'll take trees, birds, & open fields any day over tall, fancy buildings & busy streets. Give me space to run, think, & dream.

What about you? Do you like the country or the city?

Sunday Reflections: Mission

"Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds you plant."
                                                        -Robert Louis Stevenson
(thank you, pomegranate balsamic vinegar, for the inspiration)

Society tells us that we should measure our success based on the harvest. When the results of our labor look like slim-pickings, it's tempting to want to give up, but that shouldn't be our focus. Who knows but that you have come... for such a time as this? (Esther 4:14b)

If you are a Christian, it's not your responsibility to convince people of the truth of Christ. Only God, through His Spirit, can do that. You are simply called to share the news. Talk about Jesus and what he was done in your life. Don't force it, but speak genuinely from your heart to the sphere of influence that God has placed you in. Plant those seeds.

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart."
Hebrews 12:1-3

Health Food Fridays

I'm so excited to be sharing about my new series coming up!

"Health Food Fridays" was born out of my love for cooking gourmet foods that are both yummy & nourishing. Originally I was going to call this series "Foodie Fridays" but was informed that there is another blogger with a series by that name (+ when I googled it, I realized there are lots of people doing that), so I wanted an original name. Because the focus is going to be on preparing foods that are healthy, I figured why not "Health Food Fridays." It has a nice ring to it, don't you think?

My goal is to inspire you to try new things, have an adventurous spirit in the kitchen, and take care of your body all at the same time. I want to change the world's opinion that healthy food tastes like cardboard. I have had a passion for cooking with whole, natural, organic foods for 8+ years now and truly believe that you can make it your lifestyle while still eating things that are unbelievably delicious. Food is meant to nourish and sustain us, but it is also a gift from God that we should enjoy! (and enjoy I do :)

I hope you are as excited as I am! Please let me know if there are any types of foods/recipes you would like me to cover. You can leave comments below, email, tweet, or facebook me! xo

Jessica N Designs

Recently, I received some custom-made goodies from Jessica N Designs. Remember this post I wrote? Well, Jessica did a spin on her copper heart "loved" ring to make mine say "beloved." So perfect, right?

She also made me a key chain with one of my favorite Bible verses. It's found in Proverbs 16:3.

Jessica is SO talented! Be sure to check out the rest of her beautiful shop here! (She makes AWESOME cake forks that I would love to have at my wedding some day) ;)

On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!"
Luke 24:1-6

"Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?"
Thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:55 & 57

Lately: In the Studio

Hi friends! The past few days, I've been up to my elbows in glaze preparing for a firing on Friday.

When I mix glazes, I do it outside in the garage because it's messy and there are harmful dusts that you don't want to breathe in. (I know... health-conscious me works with potentially cancer-causing ingredients!) Don't worry though, I wear a mask. Glaze is only harmful in the dry powdery state. Once it's liquid, it's perfectly safe. Fortunately, it's been pretty nice outside lately. I've mixed glazes already in the middle of winter, and it is not fun!

Once it's mixed, each batch of glaze has to go through a super-fine meshed strainer at least twice to make sure it's good and smooth.

In this next firing, I have lots of toad houses, soap dishes, ikebanas, herb markers, and jewelry! Gardening season is upon us, which I can tell by the fact that my shop is currently depleted of toad houses- yikes!

I wanted to tell you that I'm brainstorming a new series for the blog, which I am very excited about! I'm going to be sharing lots of recipes to hopefully inspire you to get healthier in the kitchen. More details coming soon!

Have a happy Wednesday!

Baby Birthday

My baby cousin turned 1 this past weekend, so we had a little party to celebrate! He is seriously such a little entertainer and being the baby of the family, is never short of attention. I don't think my family has ever laughed so hard!

Poor sock monkey didn't survive for long. Who knew something so cute could make such a mess?

What's a party without presents and a pinata?

Love his smile!
Happy Birthday, Cayden! Wishing you a great second year of being alive!
