Valentine's Day as a Single Woman

I had no intentions of writing about this today. I wasn't even planning a Valentine's Day-related post. Then I thought, "I can't just pretend it's not happening. It is a national holiday, after all." So I snapped a few photos of my Valentine-ready pup and thought "casual-happy post." I'm all for celebrating the family and friends the Lord has blessed me with (including the furry ones), and that, to me, is what Valentine's Day is all about.

But I know. Valentine's Day can be hard. Really hard. Life can be hard and this day that seems surrounded by couples in love doesn't make it any easier when you are not in their shoes and you want to be.

The Lord in His endless mercy has been teaching me a lot about security this year. (Remember this post?) I've never had V-Day plans with someone of the opposite sex. I've never received a bouquet of roses. I've spent years of my life wondering how long this wait is going to be.

And you know what? It's okay. I don't need a man to make me whole and worthwhile. In fact, a man can't make me whole and believing that one will is a lie straight from the pit of hell.

Celebrate the people you love today- your girlfriends, family, significant other. If you don't feel like anyone loves you, I can tell you that the Maker of the universe is crazy in love with you, and He's the only One who will ever make you whole. That is worth celebrating.

  1. Oh girl, I've been there. I always try to reach out to my single girlfriends today b/c I spent many a lonely V day and you're right it can really stink. But how you can be sad with such a cute pup?!
Today, I'm focusing on 1 John 4:19: We love because He first loved us. May we all find comfort in His love alone!

  2. Ah Amen sister!!! I'm single too, and I just love this post. Your words ring SO true! There is so much love surrounding us to celebrate today. It doesn't have to be from one man, if anything, it should be the love from THE Man that we celebrate!

Happy Valentine's Day, friend!! I hope yours is surrounded by love! :)

  5. This is my first valentine day not single and I'm 29. Trust me, it is well worth the wait. And, major kudos to you for realizing that a guy does not make you whole. I'm glad I figured that out several years ago and my single years were an absolute blast! I'm definitely not saying I partied [[at all!!]] but just realizing that being single is simply a SEASON did me wonders of good. :)

    Take care, Natalie!
